Soap Recipes...
This is just a few of the recipes I used so far.. I used a basic formula and tweaked it to make it my own by adding my own version of essential oils and dried flowers. Again I urge you to have fun with this and research in books and the web for other recipes and styles of making soap - Soap Making Resource is one site that has it all and was an amazing source of information and supplies but there are quite a few others too.
Lavender Citronella Soup (My Bug Soap)
26.5 ounces Olive Oil
16.5 ounces Coconut Oil
10 ounces Palm Oil
209 grams Lye
2.7 ounces Essential oils (your choice)
20 ounces Distilled Water
For the essential oil I only used about an ounce if that of citronella oil and for the lavender I just used dried lavender flowers I collected last summer. The dried flowers give it a bit of exfoliating properties

Shampoo Bar Soap *
26.5 ounces Olive Oil
10.6 ounces Palm Oil
7.95 ounces Castor Oil
5.3 ounces Avocado Oil
2.65 Ounces Shea Butter, Ghana
21 grams Tea Tree Essential OIl
28 grams Rosemary Oil
21 grams Grapefruit Oil
.5 grams tussah silk (size of 1/2 cotton ball)
3 medium egg yolks
20 ounces distilled water
6.8 ounces Lye
I tweaked this recipe a bit as I did not find Shea butter or tussah silk (you can order these at the below resource if you want to). I used Sweet Almond oil in place of the Shea butter and just omitted the silk. I did not use all of the essential oils either as I did not have close to that amount - I did use some lavender as well because I love lavender. All in all I may have used 30 grams total of essential oils so quite a bit different to what was in the recipe. It is only for smell so don't think by omitting it or reducing it that the soap won't come out as remember you don't add the flavor until the end. Oh and I only had large eggs so opted to use 2 egg yolks instead of 3. I added the egg yolk in with the oil while I heated it on the stove. Word to the wise, keep stirring it as I stepped away for a second and the egg yolk settled to the bottom and kind of stuck there - I had to really stir hard and scrapping the bottom to get it to come off again. So just keep stirring it until all is melted then remove from heat.

Basic Castile Soap
40 ounces Olive Oil
10 ounces Distilled Water
5 ounces Lye
This recipe will be my next one to make. This is a basic castile soap used in melt and pour recipes. I have a gardener's soap I want to try but it is a melt and pour recipe where you melt down a bar of castile soap - add ingredients to it and pour it into a mold - you let it sit until harden and Walla it is done - no waiting 4 weeks to dry as the castile has already been processed once - this is one of the reasons melt and pour kits at the store are popular. No waiting time.
