Front of Barn tent conversion
I hadn't realized that it has been well over a month since I last did a daily blog. I have been spending so much time updating my facebook page everyday that this page kind of went out by the way side. We have had some changes for November, most of which has been trying to winterize the animals so they can be comfortable when the real cold weather settles in. Here is a picture of the front of our grey tent which is now being converted into a barn. Someday when we have another barn built, this will be used as my greenhouse.
Back of the barn with animal doors
This is the back of the tent which will have two doors one for the boys and one for the girls. Right now I am not milking anyone so have the boys in close proximity of the girls will not taint the milk. Also it is breeding season so they are "very close" anyways. If my calculations are correct, we should be having our kids arrive the first few weeks of April.
Two stalls almost finished
This is the inside so far. We recycled some pallets to use as a buffer against the outside tent wall. Goats like to munch so we are trying to avoid any unwanted holes appearing. Jonathan will be building another set of doors for these two openings as well as another set of stalls along the wall for future use. It is hard to believe only a week or so ago that this tent was full of stuff that has now found its way over to the workroom. Which is now a mess :)
Our first snow of the season
And this month has already seen our first snow fall. It wasn't too much and didn't last long but it sounded the alarm in our heads that winter was coming in fast and we needed to get moving!
And besides canning, crafting and trying out new recipes, our month here on the homestead has been quiet. With Yule and Christmas approaching fast, I am sure that will all change. Next on the agenda is finishing off the barn, decorating for Christmas and bringing in a bit of Yule tide cheer by making my own Mead! Well I know the Mead won't be ready to drink for 6 months but I figure the winter months are a great time to start it so we can enjoy it come June! I will keep you posted and look for some new recipes in the next few weeks. Thanks for being here and Keep smiling!
